Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia serotina)
Sometimes called “yellow daisy,” this flower has a dark brown centre and 10 to 20 deep yellow florets growing out from around it. The Black-eyed Susan flowers in July-September and likes moist parkland habitat including the edges of aspen poplar bluffs, open meadows, and coulees. The plant grows up to 45 cm tall and takes two years to complete its life cycle (biennial). Butterflies are attracted to the flowers, and different insects and birds use the seeds and nectar for food.
