In the Community: What's In Bloom
Gaillardia (Gaillardia aristata)
This colourful wildflower, often called “blanket flower,” is a pioneer of newly disturbed prairie. Its large yellow and orange daisy-like flowers, which appear from July to August, are attractive to butterflies, birds, and humans alike. Gaillardia has many cultivated varieties and works well in a xeriscaped garden because of its resistance to drought and its tolerance for poor soil.
