In the Community: What's In Bloom
Harebell (Campanula rotundifolia)
Often called “blue bells” because of its bell-shaped blue flowers, this prairie perennial likes sandy soils and is very drought tolerant. It blooms from June until September and is hard to find at other times because of its very fine leaves and stem. Pioneers thought this plant was associated with witches so it had a bad reputation, but many insects, including the Harebell Carpenter Bee, think it is a great place to seek nectar.
