Meadow Blazingstar (Liatris ligulistylis)
Another name for this beautiful wildflower is "gay feathers" because of its brilliant rosy purple round heads of blossoms (2.5 cm in diameter), which brighten the moist meadows and forest edges where they grow. The flowers at the top of the stalks (up to 45 cm tall) appear in August. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and goldfinches are attracted to this plant. The woody roots were used by First Nations people for food and medicine.
