In the Community: What's In Bloom

Prairie Rose (Rosa arkansana)

The pink flowers appearing in June-August on this prickly shrub give way to red rose hips by fall. The hips are a good source of vitamin C and are often used in jams, jellies, wine, sauces, and candies. A close relative of this plant is the Prickly Rose (Rosa acicularis) – the floral emblem of Alberta.
