GRADUATE AND SUMMER STUDENTS WANTED FOR 2010
In collaboration with Dr. Chris Somers, I have submitted grant applications for several ecological research projects intended to begin in the spring of 2010. We are looking for graduate students and summer students interested in working on the following projects:
| 1 |
Experimenting with habitat manipulations to increase the abundance and availability of small mammals to endangered Burrowing Owls in southern Saskatchewan. |
| 2 |
Developing broadly applicable resource selection function models to explain the abundance and distribution of Richardson’s Ground Squirrels across southern Saskatchewan. |
| 3 |
Developing broadly applicable resource selection function models to explain the distribution and foraging behaviours of Great Horned Owls across southern Saskatchewan. |
| 4 |
Developing broadly applicable resource selection function models to explain the distribution and foraging behaviours of Badgers across southern Saskatchewan. |
| 5 |
Survey for and collect data to develop resource selection function models to explain the distribution of endangered Western Harvest Mice in Alberta and Saskatchewan. |
If this is something that you are interested in, please check out my Prospective Students page and contact me as soon as possible.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
My research interests centre on the ecology and conservation of prairie fauna. The Canadian prairie presents many challenges to the persistence of its indigenous species, from anthropogenic factors to extreme weather and climate to “natural” ecological community interactions. To identify the significance of particular factors on limiting populations, my studies address ecological questions related to predator/prey interactions, foraging behaviour, habitat selection, and dispersal behaviours.
I am interested in a wide range of taxa, with a particular curiosity for birds of prey, small mammals and snakes.
