Grassland Songbird Conservation

Grassland songbird populations have undergone significant declines in recent decades. As part of an on-going research program, the RSM has been examining factors that may be part of the problem. Data collected in and around Grasslands National Park during the El Niño of 1998 has shed light on the importance of seasonal land-use decisions and the apparent sensitivity of one species (Sprague's Pipit) to dry spring conditions. Future plans include a comparison of reproductive behaviour and nesting success on traditional and organic farms.
